Somalia : Al Shabaab killed 30 Burundian Soldiers
In Somalia Al Shabaab forces overran a Burundian African Union (AU) peacekeeper's base in Middle Shabelle, Somalia. Three civilians were killed, as well as 30 soldiers . A further 22 soldiers were injured. The militants deployed two car bombs before storming the base with heavy gunfire. Al Shabaab sent a suicide car bomber into the base's main gates, allowing the alleged 400 fighters to enter the building. Al Shabaab claims to have killed 59 soldiers in the first hour, as they took control of the base, but these numbers have not been confirmed. AU forces retaliated with helicopter gunships and drones after the Burundian soldiers retreated to a nearby hillside in Ceel Baraf village. Al Shabaab has carried out frequent bombings and gun attacks throughout Somalia, including an attack near Mogadishu's main airport in March 2022 .
