Ethiopia : In Addis Ababa and other cities, it was revealed that most of the crimes committed by foreigners are those who entered illegally
In Addis Ababa and other cities, the foreigners who commit the most crimes are those who entered illegally, according to the Ethiopian Refugees and Returnees Service. General Director of Migration and Refugee Returnees Service, Ato Tesfahun Gobazai; He stated that if the issue of foreigners living in exile is not managed carefully, it is opening the door for criminal activities.
It is known that there are foreigners who have been recognized as refugees in Ethiopia, who have entered illegally and who entered legally and whose residence visas have been revoked. He pointed out that some of these refugees are involved in terrorism, illegal money laundering, human trafficking and other criminal activities.
Ato Tesfahun also pointed out that because refugees live in Ethiopia especially in coastal areas, there may be illegal activities related to the current situation in neighboring countries and lax border controls. To prevent this, the service is working with regional and federal security institutions, he said. In any case, foreigners should abide by the laws of the country during their stay in Ethiopia.
He said that the service will carry out the task of informing the Ethiopian law and order according to the organization of the refugees and those who deviate from the law will be held accountable. He pointed out that there are foreigners who prepare illegal and fake documents in cities, especially in Addis Ababa. But he said that not all crimes are committed by the immigrants.
He also explained that any individual is called a refugee if he has applied for asylum within one month of entering the country and is granted asylum or immigration recognition if the reason is found to be convincing. He stated that the number, type and distribution of foreigners are currently being controlled and monitored by the Immigration and Citizenship Service.
Remember that the registration of foreign nationals in all three categories is being conducted recently. ESA reported that in the current process, the citizens who have been recognized as immigrants are registering in large numbers. According to a recent statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 70,000 foreigners from 36 different countries have registered since July 1.
