Ethiopia Peace Talks ፡ First peace talks on Ethiopia's Tigray conflict starts in Pretoria South Africa

Ethiopia Peace Talks -   First peace talks on Ethiopia's Tigray conflict startስ in Pretoria South Africa

The siege of the Mekele airport and the pre-negotiation dispute have put the peace in jeopardy. It was heard that the agenda was changed and the first round of the peace talks that was called in South Africa had been hindered, and the United States was trying to convince the Ethiopian delegation to benefit the TPLF at a high level. The TPLF, who are calling for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Ethiopian and Eritrean army from Tigray, have been told that the Ethiopian army will not leave as long as Tigray is part of the federal government. Let the TPLF negotiators stop the Ethiopian army. It was observed that they were repeatedly calling for the withdrawal of the Eritrean army. The TPLF negotiators, who say that military action is not the solution, have forgotten that they started the war and caused destruction and killing.

Negotiators for the Ethiopian government and regional forces from Tigray were due to meet in the South African capital Pretoria for the first formal peace talks since war broke out two years ago. The talks come after the Ethiopian military and their allies, who include troops from neighbouring Eritrea, captured several large towns in Tigray, a region in northern Ethiopia, over the past week.

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, spoke yesterday with his South African counterpart ahead of critical Ethiopian peace talks in the country. A readout from the State Department said Blinken talked with International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Naledi Pandor, amid escalated international interest. These talks come as the international community marks UN Day, reflecting the official creation of the global organisation. A message from the Secretary-General says that now, more than ever is a need to bring to life the values and principles of the UN Charter in every corner of the world.
