PM Abiy Ahmed and TPLF Getachew Reda met face to face and discussed in Ethiopia
Senior officials of the Ethiopian Federal Government and the People's Liberation Army of Tigray TPLF met and discussed today in Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonin and other senior officials from the federal government were present at the meeting held at Halala Kela, a recreational area in southern Ethiopia.
From the TPLF side, the members of the peace agreement committee led by the party's chief negotiator, Mr. Reda, participated. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met and discussed publicly with senior officials of the TPLF. Today is the first time since October 2013. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's security adviser, Ridwan Hussain, wrote on his Twitter page that the peace agreement was signed by the two sides. It's focused on the activism that has been going on so far.
Prime Minister Abiy has decided to increase the number of flights, banking and other services to Tigray. According to Ambassador Ridwan, the decision is aimed at establishing more trust between the two sides. The agreement signed by the Ethiopian federal government and the TPLF negotiators in Pretoria and Nairobi since last October is becoming active.
